13. Troubleshooting

Program monitor shows the wrong picture

Use the monitor's source control and select HDMI 2 if that remains the correct input.

Program monitor is black

The original procedure identifies the Techole 1×2 HDMI splitter as a possible cause.

  1. Close OBS.
  2. Identify and label every cable before disconnecting anything.
  3. Power-cycle the splitter.
  4. Reconnect each cable to its original port.
  5. Restart OBS and confirm that the picture returns.

The old instruction said to unplug all four connections. This should not be the primary instruction until the ports and cables are labeled and photographed.

Companion does not connect to OBS

  1. In OBS, open Tools → WebSocket Server Settings.
  2. Display the connection information and note the address and port.
  3. Open the OBS connection in Companion.
  4. Make the target address and port match.
  5. Save and confirm healthy status.

Companion does not connect to the ATEM

Find the ATEM's address, open its Companion connection, select the matching target, and save. Restart Companion if the address does not appear.

Screeching or harsh static

Immediate action

Lower the ATEM return channels immediately. A known cause of severe screeching or harsh static in this system is the ATEM return being sent back into M32 buses 7 and 8, creating a feedback loop.

  1. Confirm that Aux 3 and 4 — the Video L/R Return channels — are not sent to buses 7 and 8.
  2. Keep Video L/R Return at negative infinity unless the return is intentionally needed.
  3. Retest at a low monitoring level.
